Even though many communities across USA are looking at Kansas city, Kansas with envy, I am happy that Google has broken grounds on the project. Even if Google is selective (1100 communities wanted Google Fiber to Home) in it's High speed networks and where they are laid out, other providers can not ignore the fact that fiber to home is the way to go. Google and it's Gigabit Fiber network will be the catalyst for other providers to come out, at least with megabit networks.
It is more than just a faster network and an example of what high speed network and applications could do to a community. What ever the selection criteria, Google has chosen Kansas city and is working with with local organizations including the Kauffman Foundation, KCNext and the University of Kansas Medical Center to help develop the Gigabit applications of the future.
Congratulations Kansas City!
