iPhone OS 3.1 Update on Jailbroken iPhones.
With all the new iPhone 3GS coming in to the market and old 3G phones changing hands, there might be a lot of people getting iTunes update notice. Even though the update provides a bunch of new enhancements and might also fix the stinking battery problems, the jailbroken iPhone users are warned against updates.
If you do the normal update through the iTunes, you might lose your Ultrasn0w (Ultrasnow) unlock permanently.
"If you update to Apple’s new software using the normal iTunes process, you will lose your ultrasn0w unlock. In fact you may lose it permanently, because for most people the baseband firmware cannot be reverted to a previous version (unlike the main application CPU firmware).
But don’t worry…our PwnageTool program lets you update your main firmware without touching your baseband firmware, so you can still have the best of both worlds. But you must be diligent about saying “no” to your iTunes request this week to update your firmware."
So hold on to your jailbroken phones until you get a work from Dev-Team. More importantly read the lively discussion as well.

Pinchmedia: Is Apple Allowing Spyware Vendors In App Store?
Does Pinchmedia Spy on you via iPhone Apps?
Pinchmedia seem to be creating waves these days with allegations of spyware apps. I came across a post on one of my favorite blogs, DE-Team Blog about a post about an app related to restaurants and how much of a tip to pay, which uses Pinchmedia enabled app. If you agree to let the app use your location, your location and path info (your actual physical path through your area each time you launch the app) belongs to Pinch Media, Inc. Means these information get uploaded to Pinchmedia servers.
I thought a big deal, until I notced a comment (now the post is updated with this information) that pointed out a bunch on Pinchmedia doings with two other apps.
Camera Zoom & Twitterfon, both pinchmedia enabled iPhone applications, are sending packetful of your information to various servers.
Camera Zoom sends home, your iPhone unique ID, iPhone model, OS version, if the app is cracked/pirated, your iPhone is jailbroken, when you start & stop the app and your current latitude & longitude.
The other, Twitterfon, sends the same information to buncnch more servers.
No wonder PinchMedia analytics did a good job analyzing iPnone apps!
I do not have either of the applications installed and now I know I never will. I will also check if any apps that I am having are Pinchmedia enabled. Wether they are spyware apps or not is for you to decide and you already know what I think.
There are many legitimate apps that will serve the same purpose so when in doubt, step aside.
Read the posts and it might help you to decide.

iPhone 3.0 Jailbroken?
http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/
According to a post on the DEV-TEAM Blog and the subsequent comments, it looks like there bunch of activities aroung the iPhone 3.0 Beta is going on.
But first and foremost they were asking not to upgrade to the new IPSW if you are running YellowSnow because you cannot go back to IPSW 2.2.1 and restore Yellowsn0w.
"And for those wondering, yes the 3.0 OS is jailbreakable on all devices. It’s just those using 3G yellowsn0w that have to show some restraint and wait for PwnageTool to create a custom IPSW that avoids the baseband update."
The discussion is going on and most that I gathered is from it that without a DEV IP from Apple people are going to have trouble if they upgrade to IPSW 3.0 Beta.
