HP big people seem to confirm that WebOS event on February 9th 2011 is multi purpose, tell us about new WebOS devices and to take some shine away from Apple that it currently enjoys.
If you noticed, HP was pretty quiet at CES 2011 but we expect to see some stuff of "Think big. Think small. Think beyond."WebOS event on February 9th.
HP's new CEO Leo Apotheker has revealed in an interview with BBC that devices announce at the WebOS event will be available soon after the event.
He also revealed that another event, planned for March 14th would bring "secret answer" to competitors and a "vision of what HP is capable of in the future."
The New HP CEO wants make things differently and make people say, "'this is as cool as HP', not 'as cool as Apple'"
Another HP executive, HP Personal Systems Group Executive VP Todd Bradley previously told CNBC, that we could expect to see more than a Palm Tablet at the WebOS event too;
“As we think about how that enables everything from smartphones to tablets to PCs to potentially other large screen devices, we see an enormous opportunity, both for ourselves and for our customers, to get the best web experience, the best content experience, that they can.”
Hopefully we will hear about them WebOS tablets Topaz and Opal

webOS Phones From HP WIll Come In Early Next Year.

It has been a while since HP bought Palm, one of the pioneers of the smart phones, it also developed the  webOS operating system for phones. HP acquired Palm for $1.2 billion in April 2010.
Company vice President Eric Carder has confirmed that devices based on the webOS will hit the shelves in early next year.

Twelfth FoxConn Employee Commits Suicide

It looks like with every new iPhone, Foxconn sacrifices a few employees. (Not intentionally I guess and hope because they are even willing to go as far as getting employees to sign a non suicide pact. I hope Apple will not ask us to enter such pact when we buy our next phone.)
The twelfth employee to commit suicide from Foxconn's Shenzhen plant this year became the tenth person to plunge to his death at the factory just 11pm in Shanghai time.
This employee committed suicide just ONE day after  a 19 year old Hunan male, Li Hai, who had just started working at Foxconn 42 days ago.
I hope Foxconn's biggest clients like, Apple, Dell and HP would look into these factory suicides.  Perhaps staying off next iPhone 4G might make Steve Jobs make a call.

HP To Acquire PALM For $1.2 Billion!

HP announced today that it will be purchasing Palm INC for 1.2 Billion dollars.  Both Palm and HP boards  has approved the acquisition but needs the usual regulatory approval. Looks like HP wants to be in the mobile market.
But I guess it is a blessing for Palm stock holders!

HP and Palm, Inc. (NASDAQ: PALM) today announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement under which HP will purchase Palm, a provider of smartphones powered by the Palm webOS mobile operating system, at a price of $5.70 per share of Palm common stock in cash or an enterprise value of approximately $1.2 billion. The transaction has been approved by the HP and Palm boards of directors.

The combination of HP's global scale and financial strength with Palm's unparalleled webOS platform will enhance HP's ability to participate more aggressively in the fast-growing, highly profitable smartphone and connected mobile device markets. Palm's unique webOS will allow HP to take advantage of features such as true multitasking and always up-to-date information sharing across applications.

The merger consideration takes into account the updated guidance and other financial information being released by Palm this afternoon. The acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions, including the receipt of domestic and foreign regulatory approvals and the approval of Palm's stockholders. The transaction is expected to close during HP's third fiscal quarter ending July 31, 2010.

Palm's current chairman and CEO, Jon Rubinstein, is expected to remain with the company.
