iOS 4.3 Tethering, Only 3 Devices Can Connect To iPhone 4, iPad 2!

iOS Tethering http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/
I use a MiFi device to tether my WiFi only devices when I am out of the range. For the life of device, which is like 6 months now, I had only once connected the MiFi to five people. It was painfully slow but as we all were waiting for important emails, we had to share. At all other times, I have had no more than two devices at a time.

So the iOS limitation of iPhone, iPad 2 tethering will not bother me much should I go in the Apple's direction. (Only for iPad 2 as I have decided to drop my iPhone and take on an Android phone for my next phone.) The decision on iPad 2 is purely price. I also know how Apple operates. I have not had much experience with Motorola other than a simple phone a few years ago. So I do not know how Motorola will tread it's tablet customers and the XOOM it self. But if they price the Motorola XOOM right, I will still go that way. Let us see.

The three device limitation is not from AT&T but actually a limitation of iOS 4.3 so it might be a limit on Verizon as well, we will have to wait and see;
....and the next time you find yourself without access to Wi-Fi but in 3G territory, enable Personal Hotspot and share your cellular data connection with your Mac, PC, iPad, or other Wi-Fi-capable device. You can share your connection with up to five devices at once over Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and USB — with up to three of those connections using Wi-Fi.4 Every connection is password protected and secure. And it’s power friendly, too. iPhone detects when your Personal Hotspot is no longer in use and turns it off to save battery life.
But again If you are planing to do any heavy handed data exchange work, better think about mobile data plans (As I write Diordna is writing a post on Verizon /AT&T data plan comparison, we don't want you to pay at the rate of $60 a GB (as with AT&T.$15/250MB)

Sprint, Gains 1.1 Million Wireless Customers, Android Does Work

http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/
Looks like Android is working for more people, even wireless carriers like Sprint. Sprint has added more than a million customers during a quarter and it is a first for the carrier. By bringing WiMAX and EVDO with Android phones like LG Optimus STM, Sanyo ZioTM by Kyocera, and Samsung TransformTM with integrated Sprint ID. Sprint ID, introduced in October, is a user-friendly way for customers to personalize their AndroidTM experience, conveniently downloading ID packs that feature applications, screensavers and more. Sprint has collaborated on the development of Sprint ID packs with ESPN, HSN and MTV and previously announced its collaboration with BodyMedia, Inc., among others. The Android 4G phone, HTC EVOTM Shift 4G helped Sprint launch 4G service in 16 new markets during the quarter, including New York, San Francisco, Miami and Los Angeles. Sprint 4G is now available in 71 markets, reaching more than 110 million people.
Mobile hotspots, MiFi® 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot by Novatel Wireless, also seem to have helped Sprint. I too own a Sprint MiFi and it does what I need to, while on the run with a notebook.

Talking about notebooks, during fourth quarter 2010, Sprint added embedded 3G/4G netbook and notebook, DellTM InspironTM Mini 10 (1012) and DellTM InspironTM 11z. Last month,

According to a press release, Sprint says it added nearly 1.1 million total wireless subscribers including net postpaid subscriber additions – both bests in nearly five years – and highest ever fourth quarter prepaid net subscriber additions

    * Best ever fourth quarter and annual postpaid churn results
    * Twelfth consecutive quarter of improvement in Customer Care Satisfaction and First Call Resolution
    * Sequential and year-over-year total quarterly net operating revenue growth
    * Free Cash Flow* of $913 million in the fourth quarter and $2.5 billion for 2010
“I am pleased with the progress Sprint made in 2010 in each of our three focus areas. Sprint’s customer experience and brand continued to strengthen during the year, and we generated excellent cash flow, It had been almost five years since we added over a million customers in a quarter, and the annual improvement in postpaid subscriber results of 2.7 million vs. the previous year is unprecedented in the history of the U.S. wireless industry.” said Dan Hesse, Sprint CEO.

#Novatel Sues #ZTE and #Franklin Over #MiFi! http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/
Novatel's has sued ZTE and Franklin over five patents covering the "key architecture and functionality" of Novatel's MiFi  mobile hotspots. I own one from Virgin that runs on Sprint network. If this is the case you can forget about How To Make A 3G Router (MiFi Router)! With Chumby One.
for you can get sued. Let us see how this mobile patent lawsuit turns out.
Press Release;
SAN DIEGO, Dec. 10, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Novatel Wireless, Inc. (Nasdaq: NVTL), a provider of wireless broadband access solutions, today announced that it has filed a lawsuit against Franklin Wireless Corp., ZTE Corp. and ZTE(USA), Inc. for infringing on five Novatel Wireless' patents related to key architecture and functionality of the MiFi® family of Intelligent Mobile Hotspots. The suit was filed in the United States District Court for the Southern District of California.
"Novatel Wireless invented the MiFi Intelligent Mobile Hotspot and with that created a whole new product category in the wireless ecosystem," said Peter Leparulo, Chairman and CEO of Novatel Wireless.  "We're confident that we will continue to lead the market, but competitors need to rely on their own inventions rather than infringe on ours," Leparulo continued.
Novatel Wireless holds numerous U.S. and international key patents and patent applications around elements of the MiFi Mobile Intelligent Hotspot family of products, a new product category invented by Novatel Wireless.
Since its introduction, Novatel Wireless' MiFi branded products have commercially launched with 25 operators worldwide and have received almost every major industry accolade for innovation.
