Redsn0w 0.9.8b6 Takes Care Of iOS 5 Beta 6, Jailbreak iOS5

Redsn0w 0.9.8b6 Takes Care Of iOS 5 Beta 6 http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/

iPhone Dev-Team has updated redsn0w to readsnow 0.9.8b6 to support Apple's newly released iOS5 Beta 6. Keep in mind if you are not a registered developer of Apple, this will be a exercise in vain and if you are a developer, remember this is a tethered jailbreak. Meaning every time your iDevice loses power or reboots, you need to jailbreak.

We’ve released redsn0w 0.9.8b6 to jailbreak iOS5 beta6 (point it directly at the beta6 IPSW). Two important notes about this version: (1) Please let your device boot normally to IOS5b6 and do a clean shutdown (slide to power off) before jailbreaking. (2) Boot logos have intentionally been disabled for now, so you’ll see a black screen on tethered boots (you can re-enable logos or verbose boot with command-line options if you really want them back).

Due increased sensitivity to abrupt filesystem shutdowns in IOS5b6, it’s very important that you do a clean shutdown before running redsn0w.

Back To iOS 4.3.3 From iOS 4.3.5, No SHSH Blobs Needed : Geohot

Back To iOS 4.3.3 From iOS 4.3.5 http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/

If you upgraded to iOS 4.3.5 and now thinking of getting back to iOS 4.3.3 for that full untethered jailbreak, Geohot says it is no big deal.

People who were trying to downgrade to iOS 4.3.3 were faced with errors, no matter if they saved their 4.3.3 SHSH blobs or not. But the solution Geohot is providing can do very well without the iOS 4.3.3 SHSH Blobs.

All you need is restore files, RedSn0w, iOS 4.3.3, and iTunes 10.4 and simple instructions.(Download links provided on Goehot article)

Comments mention the method did not work on iPads and Geohot also mentions that they did not try the method themselves but one of their readers provided the solution.

redsn0w + limera1n Are Saving Exploits.

#redsn0w + #limera1n Are Saving #Exploits. http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/
The iPhone-dev team has released redsn0w with limera1n exploit and on top of them giving jailbreakers and unlockers some extras like;
    * custom bootlogos for iPhone3G/iPhone3GS/iPod2G users (with qualifying bootroms)
    * an option that implements the “DFU” button in PwnageTool.  This button (which you can use from Windows) lets you prepare your device for a custom DFU.  Even if you’re purely a Windows user, you can get a trusted friend to run PwnageTool over your IPSW to create a custom IPSW.  You can now install that custom IPSW on your own Windows box, after you run this redsn0w version.

This latest redsn0w is available at:

    * OS X
    * Windows

Redsn0w beta has been updated to hacktivate iOS 4.0 for iPhone3G!

iPhone Dev Team has announced that the redsn0w beta has been updated to hacktivate iOS 4.0 for iPhone3G. This is in addition to jailbreaking iPhone3G and Jailbreaking iPod Touch 2G).
The download links for redsn0w are:

Mac OSX (x86) []
Windows []
For now, the redsn0w beta release supports only the iPhone3G and iPod Touch 2G at today’s 4.0. It’s still a beta, so you’ll need to let Cydia reorganize, reload, and update after using redsn0w.

The Dev Team also had following updated regarding the same post;

Update #2: There’s a new redsn0w beta (links were changed above) that should fix any iBooks problems people were seeing. Just run this new version 0.9.5b5-4 and deselect Cydia (you don’t want to reinstall Cydia over itself).

Update #3: Remember, there are scammers everywhere in the iPhone scene. The latest one involves something called “ClawPack”. Avoid this costly, untested, and certainly unendorsed ripoff of our free software.

Update #4: There’s a new redsn0w beta (links were changed above) that should fix any APN or MMS issues that users were seeing. It’s safe to re-run it on an already jailbroken iPhone without restoring…just deselect “Install Cydia” if you do that.

updated : PwnageTool 4.01 Released,

Updated to correct version number

PwnageTool 4.01 Released http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/
As we all know, on Monday Apple gave a gift to all iPhone, iPod owners, iOS 4. But if you have used PwnageTool to hactivate and carrier unlock, you should not have upgraded. But many people did and they either had no 3G or Edge and some had MMS disappearing.
The Dev Team always advised not to upgrade with Apple upgrades but to waited for the Dev teams release. As per their promise, the Dev Team has released the PwnageTool 4.01.(PwnageTool 4.01).
But their are some caveats and you should watch out. There are some devices that are not supported by the update because Apple does not support these under iOS 4. But as usual, the team is working on a solution for the problem. so as of now;

  • iPhone 2G  - not supported
  • iPod Touch - not supported
  • iPod Touch 3G - not supported
 The new PwnageTool only recognizes the official IPSWs that came out yesterday. The developers had access to IPSW 4.0 GM and those should not be used.

iPhone 3GS

The PwnageTool 4.01 only works with previously jailbroken 3GS devices with the old bootrom. If you have a Jailbroken iPhone 3GS with the OLD BOOTROM and you DID NOT use Spirit to jailbreak then you can create the ipsw with PwnageTool 4.0 and restore with your jailbroken recovery mode.
If you have an iPhone 3GS with the NEW BOOTROM this is NOT supported by PwnageTool 4.0 PwnageTool 4.01  (PwnageTool 4.01)

iPhone 3G

If you have a Jailbroken iPhone 3G at 3.1.2 (but not jailbroken with Spirit) then you should create the ipsw with PwnageTool 4.01 and restore from recovery mode or DFU mode.
If you have an out of the box iPhone 3G you should restore using a PwnageTool 4.01 ipsw using DFU mode.
If you have a Jailbroken 3.1.3 iPhone 3G it is very possible that this can fail from recovery mode, if this failure happens you will need to restore using DFU mode.
As an alternative to PwnageTool, you can use redsn0w on iPhone 3G (on both Windows and Mac) as mentioned in our last post.
IMPORTANT! Whenever you need to enter DFU mode, you will need to do so using PwnageTool.

 iPod touch 2G

If you have an iPod touch 2G (non-MC model) that is jailbroken (but not with Spirit) then you can restore using recovery mode.
As an alternative to PwnageTool, you can use redsn0w on non-MC iPod Touch 2G (on both Windows and Mac) as mentioned in our last post.

Baseband Unlock with Ultrasn0w
ultrasn0w has been updated to cover all basebands from 04.26.08 onward. iPhone 3G and 3GS baseband unlockers (those who rely on ultrasn0w to make phone calls) should always be very wary to update their firmware, however our Ultrasn0w application will unlock all recent (including the current) 3GS and 3G baseband firmware versions.  Once you are jailbroken using PwnageTool 4.01, install ultrasn0w from Cydia and you’ll be unlocked.
The Dev Team thanks @sherif_hashim for finding the crashing command that the new ultrasn0w 0.93 uses! and @oranav (who found the earlier +xlog crash).

iPhoneOS 3.1.3 version (7E18) Relesed But Expect Trouble WIth Jailbreak and Unlock

iPhone Dev Team 3G(s) Jailbroken snapvoip.blogspot.com
iPhoneOS 3.1.3 released today seem to fix some issues and as you can see from the dialog below,
it improves battery level reporting on 3GS
fixes some issues with third party apps that refuses to launch
Fixes Japanese Kana Keyboard bug that causes app to crash
All good but we are waiting for iPhoneOS 3.2
While I am waiting to update I checked iPhone Dev-Team site and yes, the iPhone Dev Team has issued a warning to owners of Jailbroken iPhones and Unlocked iPhones, specially iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS;
  • PwnageTool and redsn0w are not yet compatible with 3.1.3
  • There is no estimated release time for compatible tools (please don’t bug us about this).
  • Any information we have regarding this update will be posted here.

Jailbreaking iPhone OS 3.0.1 Is As Easy As Jailbreaking iPhone OS 3.0

Jailbreak iPhone OS 3.0.1
iPhone Dev Team has published a detailed document guiding those brave souls looking to do much with iPhone than Apple wants us to do, like running Google Voice foe iPhone. So the even braver souls at iPhone Dev Team has published exactly what you need, to continue nomad iPhone life.
You can use current Redsn0w and Ultrasn0w on the iPhone OS 3.0.1 and just follow the direction. If you blowup your iPhone do not hold me accountable. Why should I even Apple seem to hush up Exploding iPhones!
Following is the shorter version iPhone Dev Team published, follow the link for the longer version of recycling RedSn0w.
"use redsn0w v0.8 we released a few weeks ago to jailbreak today’s 3.0.1 update. Just let iTunes update or restore you to official 3.0.1 then run redsn0w. The only “trick” is that when redsn0w asks you to identify the IPSW used, point it at the 3.0 IPSW instead of the 3.0.1 one. After the jailbreak, reinstall ultrasn0w 0.9 if you need the unlock."

Unlock iPhone 3G And iPhone 3GS With UltraSn0w 0.9, Tips And Tricks.

Jailbreaking Unlocking iPhone 3GS
iPhone Dev Team has just released some information on Jailbreaking (Redsn0w) and Unlocking (Ultrasnow) iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G with Ultrasnow 0.9. UltraSn0w was the letest release from the team and fixes the issues amd problems reported by users of earlier version.
UltraSn0w 0.9 has many features that include:
  • Works on both 3G and 3GS
  • Works on hacktivated devices
  • Works regardless of how you jailbroke your device
  • Doesn’t patch any mach-o binary whatsoever. (Doesn’t require a separate patch as each new firmware comes out).
  • Doesn’t install any additional daemon
  • Has no race conditions, no popups about “Missing SIM”, no network issues
  • Is almost 7000 times smaller than its nearest competition :)
  • Is available now via Cydia. Source repo is http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com (that last “0” in ultrasn0w is a zero!)

The team has also published details on the fixes and provided tips on how to resolve them and how to address if an more of those problems shows up.

  • Unusual battery depletion is almost always caused by people choosing to “Restore from backup” instead of “Setup as new iPhone” when iTunes asks you. This isn’t caused by either the jailbreak or the unlock, but it’s a common 3.0 snafu. The fix is to just re-run the official 3.0 restore and choose “Setup as new” this time. Your music and apps and all that will still be synced, but you’ll get rid of any conflicting wifi, bluetooth, or carrier settings. Then just re-run redsn0w and install ultrasn0w.
  • Remember, ultrasn0w works with hacktivated phones too, but don’t outsmart redsn0w into thinking you don’t need hacktivation! If you don’t plan on using an official sim, don’t activate via iTunes with such a sim. Just keep your unofficial sim at all times and let redsn0w and ultrasn0w handle hacktivation :)
  • T-Mobile in the USA doesn’t use the 3G frequencies that the iPhones support, so turn off 3G in Settings->General->Network. (Some T-Mobile territories gracefully hand down to Edge mode, but most do not).
  • Certain unofficial plans have limitations on whether you can make calls and use data at the same time. That’s not unlock-related.
  • Some people have installed previous versions of ultrasn0w using non-standard techniques. While the ultrasn0w 0.9 update should have removed all previous versions of ultrasn0w, these users may have outsmarted our removal. So make sure you don’t still see /usr/bin/ultrasn0w present if you’re at ultrasn0w 0.9 (which doesn’t have such a binary anymore).
  • If you don’t need or plan to update to ultrasn0w 0.9 from a previous version, you can avoid having that red badge over Cydia by removing repo666 as a Cydia source. Don’t worry, you can always add it back later :) If you follow us on twitter you’ll be advised of any new updates anyway.
