Announcing AstriDevCon 2010 At AstriCon 2010!

AstriDevCon Reestablished http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/John Todd has posted to Asterisk-Dev mailing list about re-establishing AstriDevCon, the mini-conference within AstriCon 2010 conference. I am sure many developers will find it most welcoming as they get to spend one whole day with fellow Asterisk core developers;
where core developers can have direct and uninterrupted access to each other in a more direct way than usual.These sessions often result in massively productive results, either as new features are contemplated and developed, or as old problems are finally vanquished through the application of many eyes and hands. Says John Todd
Seats are limited.  Preference will be given to developers who are active participants in the issue tracker, patch submission, and asterisk-dev mailing lists and IRC channels.  There is no charge for attending AstriDevCon, though registration is required. Register for AstriDevCon at http://bit.ly/astridevcon2010
John also mentions that the AstriDevCon is fairly unstructured, but it is typically the case that there are discussions on:
   - security issues
   - priority of work issues
   - general brainstorming on new features
   - difficult bugs in the issuetracker
   - protocol (SIP, IAX2, etc.) questions and decisions
   - integration of third-party applications

@TODD twittered today about more videos from Astricon 2009 being posted on the Astricon site. There are 27 videos so far and if you were not able to attend the Astricon this year, these videos will provide some of the stuff you missed and encouragement to attend the show next year. For those who were there, it might be nice to watch that favorite presentation again!

Asterisk Branding!

Asterisk Branding, snapvoip.blogspot.com
I had the pleasure of reading an article by TMC's Erik Linask interviewing Digium's in-house counsel  and contracts manager Michelle Petrone-Fleming (whom we encountered in her Asterisk, Open Source and Licensing! article)concerning Digium and Asterisk branding and regarding the presentation that Michelle will be presenting at Astricon 2009.
Great read, and Michelle mentioned at one point;
“If you show a random sampling of code to anyone not intimately familiar with every line of code in Asterisk, and they will have a hard time telling you what software it is. Show that same person the bubble logo and they’ll immediately know it is Asterisk.”
Yes.

Distributed Call Centers With Asterisk 1.6, (Astricon 2009)

Leif Madsen At Astricon 2009 snapvoip.blogspot.com
I have seen and listened to Leif Madsen at Astricon many a times and have come away with brand new ideas. This year is not going to be different at Astricon 2009, as he will be presenting at Carrier/Call Center track on October 14th morning, 10:00 to 10:35.
He has been building a distributed call center based on Asterisk 1.4 but says that Asterisk 1.6 will help to things differently, easier and better, with new tools and features.
He is promising to be concentrated on technical aspects of the task, given the short time he has and I think it will be a great way for me to start the day.
You can read more about the talk at "Building a Distributed Call Center" at Astricon site and his blog post on the same subject at "AstriCon 2009, Building a Distributed Call Center"

Astrico 2009, Why You Really Should Make It!

Astricon 2009
I have been an Astricon fan from it's inception and I am very sure that it will continue to be so. I am more technical in nature and like to learn more about how the innards of telephony engines and IP PBXs work, I thought, until I attended the Astricon!
There are so many diverse group of people, Coders, Designers, Planners, implementers, entrepreneurs and think tanks that make all these make a sense.
I have met so many people that have helped us in the business of using Open Source Telephony a smooth operation.
If you want to know what you are missing if you miss this opportunity, like all those wonderful speakers and knowledge clusters like;
• Carriers/Call Centers
• Cloud
• Commerce
• Government/Enterprise
• Technical
• The Asterisk Ecosystem

AstriCon Keynote Speakers Announced.

AstriCon 2009
I am happy that I will be in Arizona and now I have something else to look forward to in addition to celebrating 10 years of Asterisk. I have seen what Chris DiBona, Google's open source program manager, do at Google Open Source initiatives and IBM Server and Technology group is not a strange place to me. I would like to hear about Google Open Source and IBM Asterisk initiatives.
This is going to be a fine conference. If you have not, sign up now

Following is the Digium Press Release;
HUNTSVILLE, Ala., - July 28, 2009 - Digium® the Asterisk® Company, today announced that Chris DiBona, Google's open source program manager, and Mike Smith, CTO of IBM's server and technology group, will deliver the keynote presentations at AstriCon '09. The AstriCon Open Source Telephony Conference and Exhibition, now in its sixth year, remains the longest running conference devoted to Asterisk, the world's most widely used open source telephony software. This year's conference—which takes place October 13-15, 2009—will focus on Asterisk's mainstream adoption in large enterprises and government agencies. DiBona, an internationally recognized advocate of open source technology, will discuss the role of Google in Open Source projects. Smith is an IBM Distinguished Engineer and CTO for the integrated IBM Smart Business Platform. In his keynote, Smith will discuss how IBM is using Asterisk and other open source technologies to design new solutions for small and mid-sized businesses.

"Last year's amazing turnout of more than 600 Asterisk enthusiasts proved AstriCon 2008 to be the open source telephony event of the year," said Mark Spencer, creator of Asterisk and Digium's chief technology officer. "This year as Asterisk turns 10 years old, we look forward to breaking new attendance records and welcoming a broader audience for three days of discussions and keynote presentations from two of the community's authorities on open source's growing footprint in enterprises and government agencies."

AstriCon '09 will take place from October 13-15, 2009, at the Renaissance Glendale Hotel and Spa near Phoenix, Arizona. This year's convergence of users, developers, resellers, entrepreneurs and other fans of open source technology will continue the celebration of one of the most influential open source projects with educational sessions devoted to the developing Asterisk ecosystem, trends in Asterisk use, the latest applications and a broad range of technical topics.
