The Vippie Softphone for iPhone by Voipswitch is specifically designed for iPhone and iPod. It can work with SIP servers and softswitch’s including the Voipswitch Solution.
The iPhone SIP Client supports g729 codec (also GSM, g722 and g711). In addition there is the VoIP tunnel client built-in enabling users to make and receive calls from blocked areas. The app is not yet in the iTunes App Store and until then you can get it if you have access to Cydia, basically for jailbroken iPhones. But I am very intersted about one feature; "Connectivity through WIFI, 3G, EDGE and GPRS"

Apple To Developers, No Jailbreaks, In The New Developer Agreement.

Apple is asking developers to agree with them by saying that they will not jailbreak iPhones or iPods and will write applications for jailbroken iPhones. Oh the developers are not allowed to pee while developing either! (just kidding Apple stoped short of saying that.) Apple has already asked their developers not to develop apps that violate privacy, facilitate crimes, or violate intellectual property laws.
So working for or with outfits and projects such as QuickPwn or PwnageTool. Also probidden is the jailbreaking of their own iPhones nor helping others to do so.
The developers are not to develop apps for any other application delivery method (Read Cydia). The only delivery method is to be Apple App Store.
You can read portions of the agreement at ARSTechnica, who has obtained a copy of the agreement.
But I am sure this will not stop iPhone Dev Team from doing wonders with iPhone OS 3.0 and there will be a plenty of Jailbroken iPhones and iPods. But the rebelious apps might be dear as all developers will try to get their apps published by Apple. And rejected apps might lay where they are unless the developers are clever enough (Developers usually are, more than Apple lawyers) cahnge to look and feel together with ofcourse the name.
What ever the Apple is getting developers to sign, I am sure we will be writing a lot about jailbroken iPhones and apps for Jailbroken iPhones.

iPhone 3.0 To Get Cut & Paste,

Viddler has a video telling that Kevin Rose of DIGG fame predicting iPhone 3.0 having cut & paste at SXSW. Yes that has been the feature most people has been talking (rather than asking) about and if Apple is to please the crowd and make the next AAAAGH for iPhone, they are going to release that.

But let me predict that oneway or the other, Apple will have something similar to Cycorder/ UStream and PDAnet. That will fill the basket and real time turn by turn GPS app will be the cream.
So I can do without Cut & Paste, Give us the iPhone Video and Real Time GPS, Or Cydia Store and the like will thrive.
And AT&T where is that PDAnet?

iBlueTooth for iPhone Sends And Receives FIles

Transparent Windows Marketplace for Mobile Coming Soon

Microsoft has announced their strategy for developers aptly named developer strategy promising to be transparent and just like Apple, Cydia App Store to take 30% commission for selling you wares on Mobile Market place. Oh there is a $99 joining fee and that will come again to meet you if you submit more than 5 apps a year. For every app beyond the initial five, you got to hand out $99 to Microsoft.
"Developers who sell applications through Windows Marketplace for Mobile will receive 70 percent of the sale of each application. In addition, they will have the ability to set the price for their applications in each market, maximizing their revenues based on targeted pricing strategies. Developers can also choose to distribute their application at no cost. Up to five application submissions to the Windows Marketplace for Mobile is included in the introductory annual registration of $99 (U.S.). Each additional submission within the annual period will have a cost of $99 (U.S.). The registration fee will be waived for student developers who want to reach Windows® phones customers, through enrollment in the DreamSpark program."
But most developers I know stick to single app and some deals with two or three apps. I guess it might work out to be a filter for bad applications. There are far too many windows developers than Apple or Android.
May be the transparency bit (Familiar tools, large worldwide customer base and transparent policies allow mobile developers to innovate and generate new revenue opportunities with Windows Mobile 6.5 and Windows Marketplace for Mobile.) might be poking at Apple's stringent app selection process.
But will be good for developers to have a distribution channel in the vast windows Mobile marketplace.
"We are empowering the thousands of existing Windows Mobile independent software vendors and prospective developers to grow their business by connecting them to the millions of global Windows® phone customers around the world," said Andy Lees, senior vice president of the Mobile Communications Business at Microsoft. QuickPWN Your iPhone To Get The Best Apps (How To JailBreak iPhone / iPod)

Gizmodo is having a good article telling how to get much more out of your iPhone. I have been looking at these apps and if Apple does not come out with apps like this, I may have to jailbreak iPhone and visit Cydia App Store.
Currently following (short list) are the best apps that a jailbroken iPhone could have and I want all of them!

This is what you can do with a phone that has been jailbroken:

• iPhone as a 3G modem with your laptop.
• Record video using Cycorder.
• Unlock your iPhone installing a simple program, so you can use a pre-paid card when you go out on vacation instead of paying outrageous roaming charges.
• Follow speech turn-by-turn directions in a GPS program.
• Copy and paste (yes, copy and paste).
• Play Nintendo Entertainment System games and other emulated classic cames (like Monkey Island!) well I really don't NEED this.

Cydia App Store Opens! And You Should Free Your Phone Too.

As we mentioned earlier, "Cydia Store, JailBroken App Store By Cydia" Jay Freeman. the author of our really wanted app, cycorder and the infamous installer Cydia,has opened their its own app store, and the other really really wanted app, PDAnet might be there. So are those countless apps that Apple blocks from App store to protect its own interests.
Aside from awaiting DCMA threats from Apple, all the people in the jailbreak friendly area seem to be happy. I too would like to install apps that I like on the phone that I paid too much for. For all those who are aon apples side, I have a question.
What if Apple said that you can only install apple approved apps on you Mac? what would you say?
So I think and wish, EFF will win the proposal. I signed the petition and if you think that you should own the phone you paid for, you should too.

Why can't Apple have an app like this

WSJ has spoken to Cydia site creator / maintainer, Jay Freeman and he has revealed that Cydia Store will go online on friday. Apple holds keys to iPhone and tightly controls what sells in official Apple App Store. JailBroken iPhones became the norm for people to install application that are not available on App Store.
These applications include PDAnet which turns iPhone into a modem, Cycorder, wich turns iPhone into a camcorder. I love to have both these on my iPhone and hope Apple will have these or similar on the store. Otherwise, I may have to take drastic measures. I do not want Steve Jobs to decide what I want to run on my iPhone, which I paid big bucks for!
Freeman is quoted as saying, "The overworking goal is to provide choice, It's understandable that [Apple] wants to control things, but it has been very limiting for developers and users.". Indeed but I think apple wants to control the market that it collects percentage that is said to be 30% of developers money from apps that sells on the app store.
But Apple might be gearing up for leagal action and wiggling DMCA, Digital Millenium Copyright Act as it has filed a statement with U.S. Copyright office. Lame.
As I said, Apple, I bought iPhone to be productive so either provide apps we want or let us get it from whom it is available. Cycorder is an Open Source Application.
