Smozzy : Browse The Web Without A Data Plan On Android Phones (Limited)

Smozzy : Browse The Web Without A Data Plan On Android Phones http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/
Once in a while an app comes along and you say "Hah" and Smozzy does that. Even though limited to T-Mobile network, the app which is in beta, allows one to browse the web without a data plan.
Smozzy does that by using you unlimited messaging plan via SMS and MMS, just like your Android browser does with a data plan.(Due to the large number of messages sent and received, it is recommended that those without an unlimited messaging plan not try this app)
So if you are on T-Mobile and have an unlimited data plan on either Nexus S or HTC G2 phones, head over to the Android Appstore, Android Market. If you want to join the discussion about the app, hacker news is the place.

NFC + EverNote = Touchnote, An Android App

NFC + EverNote = Touchnote http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/
We all know many Android phones have NFC (Near Field Communication) capabilities built in. There are many uses for it like paying for your train ticket, pay at any counter, exchange your patient record to name a few. Think of Google Wallet
Now you can add note taking to the long list of NFC capabilities and NFC enabled apps, thanks to Touchnote, an Android app from the Montreal-based startup Wiseleap, the app took home the $50,000 grand prize at Evernote’s recent developer conference in San Francisco.

The app allows you to pull out Evernote notes just by waving or tapping your Android Device, Adevice, near a tag (NFC Sticker) provided by Wiseleap. You also need the mobile app.
Best use for this app would be (for Me) to have a tags on my notice board, bulletin board and/or desk called by various meetings I need to attend.
Wave the Android Tablet or the phone by one of these tags and I will know exactly what is needed to carry to the meeting, what is needed to be done at the meeting etc.
For Moms, or for that matter Dads, can have a tag on the fridge associated with shopping list, wave the phone by it, modify the shopping list by opening the fridge or by looking around the kitchen and can be on the way for a perfect shopping experience.
You can get both the app and tags from Wiseleap and make sure you have a phone with NFC enabled, like Nexus S, Samsung Galaxy S II. You will be the king of note taking.
Now where did I put those tags?

XDA-developers and it's resourceful members have uncovered official updates for Nexus S and Nexus One. The Updates are the same as the OTA Gingerbread (Android 2.3.3) update announced earlier.
So users and developers alike should be happy now as none has to wait for those dastardly OTA updates. One of the notable is the NFC API for developers, now developers can actually do something with these phones capabilities.
One thing is make sure you get the correct ROM, correct version and build number as well. XDA- Developers have plenty of information on the link below. Read it carefully to proceed on getting the upgrades. There is also some modifications and addons to the original ROMs to make them even more exciting.

Starting With Gingerbread, Android Will Use ext4 Filesystems

#Android, #GoogleNexusS, #Gingerbread, #ext4, Keeping your data safe. http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/
With any OS, one of the most important aspects is the data safety and Android OS is no different. Google and the Android team are also looking into making the Android OS more reliable. So they are letting us know the changes the Gingerbread is bringing. Starting with Gingerbread, Android file system is going to change to the ext4 leaving behind the YAFFS. ext4 is what I am using on my Linux boxes as well as what is underneath the Google data centers. Your Google Nexus S will certainly have ext4 file system.
So how does the game change with the new file system? Tim Bray has written a very nice post about what we should do to keep our data safe.
As anyone familiar with Linux file systems and writing programs to run on them, have learned to use a low level system call, fsync() to make sure that your data is synced with the permanent storage. Tim goes to lengths to explain about the importance of not relying on write() to send your data to file system. (If you are using SharedPreferences or SQLite, exclusively, you have less to worry as Android is taking care of the buffering) Otherwise you need to make sure that your data get written properly. The guarantee about buffering you thought you had is all gone with the introduction of ext4.
I don't really know about the Google Nexus S phone yet, if it is possible to remove the battery, (the Google Chrome Notebook CR-48 does yet CR-48 DATA is always safe :). So think about us users, who pull the battery out, in many occasions, to shut the system down by pulling the battery out, be the system be a single of multi tasking. Not only on Android, but it a good general practice, on any system, so follow along to read more about it at Android Developers Blog: Saving Data Safely

Google Nexus S, Is Coming Soon, Gingerbread (Android 2.3) Included

#Nexus-S http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/
Nexus S will be sold unlocked and carrier-independent initially through Best Buy stores in the U.S. starting from December 16th the phone will arrive in UK after December 20th at Carphone Warehouse stores.
The phone itself is very impressive compared to the previous Google Nexus offering. One thing I already know is that, this phone going to be mine, not my colleagues.
The capacitive touch super AMOLED display of the phone (800 x 480) is contoured and is protected by glass with anti finger print coating. The phone is powered by 1GHz Cortx A8 (Hummingbird) processor and has 16GB memory on board. The 129g (4.55 OZ) phone has a bunch of sensors and feedback devices like Haptic vibration, three axix gyroscope, accelerometer, digital compass, proximity sensor and a light sensor. It also has Quad-band GSM: 850, 900, 1800, 1900, Tri-band HSPA: 900, 2100, 1700, HSPA type: HSDPA (7.2Mbps) HSUPA (5.76Mbps), Wi-Fi 802.11 n/b/g, and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR for communication. The phone is powered by Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). It is made by Samsung this time!
But the most interesting feature is the Near Field communication (NFC) which allows the phone to act as a credit card, a BART ticket or a bank card, just like the phones now being used in Japan. I am sure this Android phone, if it ever reaches Japan, will certainly be a hit.
Battery is also pretty good with  talk time up to 6.7 hours on 3G (14 hours on 2G) and standby time up to 17.8 days on 3G (29.7 days on 2G). It is a 1500 mAH Lithium Ion battery.
I want.
