Looks like we all are hooked to Texting and can't do without it. It may have been the same reason that AT&T raised the fee for texting almost double. Phone companies do not spend money to provide you with texting and the SMS rides on the communication channel that checks the connectivity with the cell phone towers. But AT&T and other carriers charge you for texting, making a killing on people's addiction to texting.

But that monopoly capability of carriers may come to an end, may be not end but make a dent due to a new discovery. IEEE is reporting that one company has found a way to send text (SMS) from any device to any device, providing they are capable of typing the message and displaying the same. The company is Neustar, the official administrator of the North American Numbering Plan. That is heavy as it can come. Neustar keeps track of 1.8 billion phone numbers around the world and 2.8 billion IP addresses and they are ever increasing, I meant the numbers.
Neustar, is about to free texting from the confinements of cellphones that carriers stick in your face most of the time and let us text ((SMS) to and from a capable device as we mentioned.
IEEE Spectrum interviewed Neustar's vice president of marketing for carrier services, Jean Foster.

The Google Translate for Android has come a long way since it was first debut a year ago. Now with built in AI, it can handle non-Roman scripts and even translates spoken words, truly being a part of hands free mobile world.
I use Google Translation mostly in SMS, when I chat with my foreign friends or contacts. But it is not so easy and I hope I can bring the Google Translate Conversation mode into SMS :) Google translator is also great toll for collaboration as well.
But I learned today that there are drop down boxes to select languages and a better layout of the real estate. Whats more is the new conversation mode. Even though it is in the experimental stage and limited to English and Spanish, one can easily chat with another person in either language. But it is an on screen conversation, meaning you can only chat with a person near by.
In the conversation mode, you speak in to the Google translation in your language, say in English and the phone will translate and speak out in Spanish. I am sure this will surely be an ice breaker in a foreign land, leading to many a fulfilled conversations.
According to Google Translate blog, users from over 150 countries translate in 53 languages. Of those languages, 15 supports spoken translations.

"Display my Google Voice number" Is Your Choice Now.

I have always wondered, silently when ever I got an SMS message from Google Voice, "why do I have so many messages from G0O? (406 on your keypad)"
But I learned the reason today;

you may have noticed that the message does not appear to come from the sender's actual number, but from a (406) number (which spells "GOO" btw), with the sender's number (or name if they are in your address book) at the start of the message. We do this so you can reply from any of your phones and keep a record of the entire conversation online in your Google Voice inbox.

But this get complicated when you send an SMS from one of the phones on the Google Voice, to another Google Voice user. Instead of 406 number combination, Google Voice has automatically sent your Google Voice number with the message.
But Google Voice has decided that ultimately it is you who should decide if you want to broadcast your Google Voice Number.
You can dot that by;

"Settings > Calls > Caller ID (out)" and select "Display my Google Voice number".

Google Gmail SMS Text Messaging Comes Out And Get Pulled Back

SMS directly from you Gmail Chat, I think it would be really nice. In fact it will be so invitable to many people who are restricted by high cost of texting yosing the mobile networks. So Google Labs released the SMS Chat For Gmail but sadly had to pull back du to some bug that the labs team discovered.
It is mighty nice of them to inform us what happened and I am looking forward to the release, as Gmail and Google Docs have become a part my daily staples.
But remember, Google Labs feature might not become the mainstay of regular Google offerings. But this one, I hope it does. There will be many people who will be joining Google, just foe the SMS.
