Level 3 is insisting that Comcast is set to cash in on the Level 3'd Netflix CDN responsibilities and not a exchange peering dispute. Well we all know that Comcast is not a real friend of Net neutrality but just riding along..

"If I were handing off traffic to Comcast in New York and expecting them to deliver it in San Diego, I would expect to pay for that, But that's not what we're doing. We spent billions of dollars to get into this business and expect to use that infrastructure in an efficient way." At the same time Comcast continue to play the peering dispute song.

After FCC and the likes of Florida Attorney General began asking questions about traffic throttling and forging torrent packets, looks like Comcast is cleaning up the act and making ways for net neutrality.
Good timing as I am planing to leave AT&T broadband services after something like 16 years (If you count ISDN as broadband :). The only reason I stayed with AT&T because of the IP block I received, and most of my DNS runs from those IP address'. But now I am changing and I can save a lot of moola by going with Comcast Xfinity triple play!.
But one should not forget about net neutrality nor ignore as the issue is very much alive and brush up your knowledge on it. Two posts that collect a lot of information such as Comcast's lies about traffic throttling, packet manipulating, FCC and Florida Attorney General, found at DSLReports and Ars Technica.

It Looks like T-Mobile does not like Net neutrality and why? because an IM app brought down their network, almost, in somewhere, in some town!
But thanks to savvy engineers, they were able to reach out to the developer and change the code, get people to update the app, and avert the collapse of T-Mobile! Wow. That is another company I am not going back to! You scared me off, Grant.

"Proponents (of Net neutrality) have a worldview that network providers and application providers, like Google, occupy different parts of the Internet: dumb pipes versus smart apps, This is a mistake pure and simple. It's an analog idea for a digital world. It completely understates the need for sound practices and ignores the benefits of smart networks."
What made me laugh and wonder what / who was dumber the pipe or?, was the following statement;

He said that companies like Verizon need to be able to prioritize packets that are transmitting medical monitoring data--over such items like e-mail or spam--to make sure they get through the network quickly. But if rules are in place that prohibit carriers from prioritizing traffic, he said, then such medical services cannot be offered.

There are better ways to put the idea forward but this is not one of them.
"It's really ironic that the digital elites in Silicon Valley are also pushing for faster broadband and more wireless networks," he said. "The two don't add up."
Perhaps back to school might teach you how to add. You already charge consumers for the pipe, more than you should, Mr.. Looks like you are an analog protrusion in a digital world.

Cisco Systems, Alcatel-Lucent, Corning, Ericsson, Motorola and Nokia and 38 others have send their concerns to the FCC saying new regulations could hinder the development of the Internet or more like their switch sales! They were also supported directly or indirectly by a group of 18 Republican US senators who also sent a letter to Genachowski siting their concerns regarding forth coming net neutrality regulations.
FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski is seeking to develop formal rules prohibiting Internet service providers from selectively blocking or slowing Web content and applications. The commission is scheduled to vote on October 22, a notice of proposed rules for net neutrality rules, which will eventually lead to rules and regulations.

"Until now, the innovators who are building the Internet and creating the advancements in telemedicine, education and the vast array of other online products and services have done so in an environment driven by competition and innovation, We believe government's role in the Internet should be to support investment, jobs and new technologies, especially if they increase the opportunity for all Americans to connect online."

Google Caught In Net Neutrality Dreaming Of Wall Street Journal

This is as interesting as it is absurd. Wall Street Journal have drummed up a story based on Google seeking Edge Server Catching on service providers. Mix that with politics and Larry Lessig and the WSJ has a drama to drum up traffic and controversy.
Larry Lessig himself released"The made-up dramas of the Wall Street Journal", his ideas about the article, and you should read it before getting gang ho on Larry Lessig. He always stayed with his views, as far as I know.
"This is precisely the position that the Journal breathlessly attributes to me today. It represents no change -- no "softening" no "shift" in my views.

Now no doubt my position might be wrong. Some friends in the network neutrality movement as well as some scholars believe it is wrong -- that it doesn't go far enough. But the suggestion that the position is "recent" is baseless. If I'm wrong, I've always been wrong."
