G.729 Codec Licences For FreeSWITCH http://snapvoip.blogspot.com
As anyone involved with VoIP IP Telephony know that G.729 codec is a toll-quality, low-bandwidth audio codec supported by almost every VoIP providers on the planet. The voice quality of a G.729-encoded call is similar to that of G.711, the codec used for standard PSTN calls. But there is a major diference in bandwidth used, G.729 uses only one fourth of the bandwith G.711 uses.
G.
Codec...Sample_Rate...Bandwidth...NominalBandwidth...Payload....License
G.711......8(kHz).......64(kbps)......87.2(kbps)........20(ms)....OpenSource
G.729......8(kHz)........8kbps).......31.2(kbps).........20(ms)....Patented.
So anyone using G.729 will make more efficient use of available network bandwidth. Basically making three G.739 calls using the same bandwidth for a single G.711. Personally I like the 48K CELT Codec on FreeSWITCH .
Just like G.729 for Asterisk (hardware cards) licenses are available at $10 per channel for FreeSWITCH systems running on Linux. Mac OSX and Windows systems support are forthcoming..
Just click on the g729 tab on main FreeSWITCH page.
