Google Fiber for Communities Is Live

Google Fiber for Communities http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/
Google has just launched a site for providing information on it's Fiber to home initiative. The experimental fiber-to-home network aims to improve the broadband. I think as with many ISPs that is really need to be done. AT&T had the same copper wire and the wiring closets for last 15 years. The only upgrade that I saw, was they painted the roadside enclosure. Comcast on the other hand, upgraded the network twice I guess. Now Comcast runs fiber to our home but I have not used them yet.
The main benefit from the Google initiative will be : not some communities getting 1Gbps connectivity : the rest of the country will know what it takes to make such network work and cost.
1100 communities have responded to the Googles call and so have 200,000 individuals, including yours truly.
The site provides a lot of information for municipalities and legistative members to prod ISPs with. Because I doubt me switching from AT&T to Comcast after 15 years of continuous service will make AT&T change their ways.
But I wonder about areas without alternative services. Perhaps LTE and WiMAX services, speed tested here, will compete with 100 year old copper wires!.
Enjoy the 1,100 thanks, and visit the site and Google blog post. Link after the jump.

Handoff Between WiMAX And LTE Might Be Possible In The Future With WiMAX and LTE Modem

WiMAX and LTE modem snapvoip.blogspot.com/
WiMAX and LTE from a single chip, yes, they are that close. Beceem announced yesterday Mobile World Congress that they will work together with Motorola to pair off Motorola's 4G WiMAX infrastructure with BeceemsBCS500 4G chip.
The product will result in a 4G modem that will be able to handle LTE and WiMAX and provide users to roam and seemlessly switch between the two networks. Beceem chips currently power the Clearwire Networks and their capabilities already provide VoIP over WiMAX with multi-access network handoffs.
"The know-how gained during the development and deployment of our leading 4G WiMAX solution has contributed to our work with Beceem to offer this advanced chipset solution, We look forward to the opportunities provided by this capability to address market demand." said Bruce Brda, senior vice president, Motorola Enterprise Mobility Solutions and Networks business.
Beceem joins the praise with
"Our 4G-WiMAX chips are powering every device in Clearwire's network, and we would not have been able to achieve this level of performance and market success without our collaboration with Motorola," said Babu Mandava, CEO of Beceem Communications. "We are pleased to enter the 4G-LTE market later this year with our new BCS500 4G-LTE/WiMAX chip that will become the performance benchmark of the 4G industry."

4G Phone From Nokia Verizon Partnership!

http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/
Nokia and Verizon have decided to put aside their differences and have come together to beat up alliances like AT&T and Apple with 4G LTE network, which we have been looking out for a while now..
iPhone have made inroads into peoples lives and pulled out pretty big chunks from their pockets to become pretty strong in the financial market as well. So according to this the street article, Nokia is looking ro ressurect it's diminishing market share and Verizon to make the upcoming high speed LTE network more appealing to people. What ever the way, I am all for competition, just like the Cydia App Store we wrote about a few minutes ago. (Cydia Store, JailBroken App Store By Cydia)
Perhaps the Clearwire Sprint plans pust the competition even further! (Clearwire Plans To Bring Clear WiMax More Markets By 2010.)
