Again another juicy bit from Oracle VS Google via FOSS Patents, that was indicated as a bombshell, but I do not. The statement posted indicates;
Lead device concept: Give early access to the software to partners who build and distribute devices to our specification (ie, Motorola and Verizon). They get a non-contractual time to market advantage and in return they align to our standard.
And nowhere it describes it is a Motorola only deal. Any OEM who is willing to adhere to Google Android standard might be able to get the same deal. In any case it is thousand times correct me million times better than the OEM deals Apple give ( except for Foxconn, even without any squirms about deaths of Foxconn employees).

Fire, Explosion At Foxconn Kills Two And Injures 16, May Delay iPad2 Shipments.

Chinese news media have reported a big explosion at Foxconn's Chengdu factory, in the building A05, where they make iPad2. Apple and Foxconn have always been related to killing people, (iPhone kills) in the name of iDevices Just like those suicides and the bad factory conditions, perhaps people will take this too in stride and worry about the iPad2 they are waiting for. It is reported 2 people dead and 16 being injured so far with more people trapped inside the building. Police have said it is not a human error.. So we can bring out the cliche "iPad2 Kills".
The details of the accident / incident is not clear but there are scores of fire trucks at the scene and the place is chaos.
What ever the case, I think the iPad2 supply (1 to 2 weeks waiting time) will be the focus of the incident rather than the loss of human life.
Well I am waiting for Asus Transformer.

Microsoft filed a complaint with the US District Court for the District of Western Washington, and one with the US International Trade Commission (ITC). Microsoft earlier lodged complaints against Motorola with the same organization and asserted the same patents in both of them.

To facilitate that we have established an industry-wide patent licensing program for Android device manufacturers, HTC, a market leader in Android smartphones, has taken a license under this program. We have tried for over a year to reach licensing agreements with Barnes & Noble, Foxconn and Inventec. Their refusals to take licenses leave us no choice but to bring legal action to defend our innovations and fulfill our responsibility to our customers, partners, and shareholders to safeguard the billions of dollars we invest each year to bring great software products and services to market,” said Horacio Gutierrez, Corporate Vice President and Deputy General Counsel for Intellectual Property & Licensing.
The patents-in-suit are:
- US Patent No. 5,778,372 on "remote retrieval and display management of electronic document with incorporated images"
- US Patent No. 6,339,780 on "Loading status in a hypermedia browser having a limited available display area" (this is the one that was previously also asserted against Motorola)
- US Patent No. 5,889,522 on "system provided child window controls"
- US Patent No. 6,891,551 on "selection handles in editing electronic documents"
- US Patent No. 6,957,233 on "Method and apparatus for capturing and rendering annotations for non-modifiable electronic content"

Foxconn Founder Terry Gou On Newsweek!
"I don't want to spend time having people sue me every day" is the reason he will stay away from USA tells the Foxconn founder in reply to a question about expanding business to USA. He says that he has been working hard to stop / reduce numerous Foxconn suicides that even found the Steve Jobs venerable iPhone capable of killing a human, literally.

The colossus that Gou (pronounced "Gwo") runs today started with a $7,500 loan from his mother. Hon Hai Precision Industry / Foxconn Electronics will be building the upcoming tablet PC (Apple Tablet Mac) from Apple, and it will be on our hands in the first quarter of 2010. It is also said that the initially 300,000-400,000 units will come out of Foxconn, according to undisclosed sources.
As we thought before, the Apple's tablet Mac will sport a 10.6-inch display, which could come from Foxconn subsidiary Innolux Display.
The same sources believe that the Apple Tablet Mac will be more focused on e-book like functionality, long battery life, quick Internet connectivity and Apple's trademark easy-to-use user interface.

Apple Tablet Another Bit Of Rumor

Chinese News paper Apple Daily in Taiwan has published (also carried by Dow Jones) that Apple Tablet will be manufactured by Hon HAi Precision Industry Co. (Aka FoxConn, Aka iKiller) and that we might see the tablet, aka 10" iPhone, as early as September this year.
They also reported that Wintek Corp. would supply flat panel screens for the device and that its battery would be built by Dynapack International Technology Corp.
AppleInsider thinks that the report related to Hon Hai may instead reflect the upcoming third generation iPod touch, which could easily be described as a "tablet computer" and is expected to arrive in the September iPod refresh as both previous new generations.
I hope Apple come out and tell us about these stuff, rather than doing AT&Ts bidding, like blocking Google Voice.

From BBC News to New Yorker are reporting about the Sun Danyong, the twenty-five-year-old employee of Foxconn who committed suicide in Shenzhen. The news seems to trying to clear Foxconn of any wrong doing.
One Chinese reported to have seen a footage of interrogation of Sun says there were no evidence of beating or torture.
One way or the other, I hope more companies stay away from modern sweatshops in china.

A prototype at that according to the news. Just imagine what a real thing could do. According to a very thought provoking article on CrunchGear, I learn that a man named Sun Danyong, has apparently committed suicide. Because of an incident related to iPhone.
Shanghiist published that rumors are flying FOXCONN, the iPhone manufacturer has basically lead a man to commit suicide.
"Sun Danyong, who had been handling a shipment of 16 iPhone prototypes, was set upon by Foxconn's Central Security Division after one of the prototypes went missing. Unable to take the "unbearable interrogation techniques," he jumped from a 12-story building on July 16.

Foxconn has already issued a statement apologizing for the incident and admitting that ah section chief of the Central Security Division, surnamed Gu, may have used "inappropriate interrogation methods" such as searching Sun's house, holding Sun in solitary confinement and possibly beatings. Gu has been suspended without pay and the company is internally investigating the Central Security Division.
But I guess we do not care as long as we could text things like this blog post using iPhones. I think John Biggs article is a good read for everyone.
