Skype No Go With New Mac Book Air! http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/
It seems the new Mac Book Air (2010) is not happy with Skype 2.8 and Skype Developer site has the issues assigned.
Even without that, VoIP Watch is reporting that even though Skype is third party software as far as Apple is concerned, Apple support has spent quite a long time gathering information on the fact. Andy Abramson has both the Macbook Air, the old which has no trouble with Skype and the new which refuses to speak Skype.
I am sure it will be solved soon.

Skype And Fring At Video War?
VoIP Watch is reporting (You can read more about the issue there) that Fring and Skype are at war. Both sides are sending accusations to each other and wonder where all these end. Fring says Skype blocked them and Skype tells us that Fring violated the API terms.

"The other detail missing from the press release is the apparent fact that femtocell traffic ("Microcell" in AT&T parlance) is *included* in counting towards the quota, but WiFi traffic is *excluded*." Dean Bubleythat makes you think AT&T is out to gouge you while helping other carriers like cable gouge you as well. You might find paying for the same service twice. Andy responds to some points raised by John Dvorac of PC Magazine regarding Google Voice and the lack of VoIP IP Telephony services by other tech companies. He lays out how others had the right ideas of which some failed, some stayed lukewarm and some actually lead to the formation of Google Voice.

Flying With GOGO

I will be testing the GOGO service this week as I have planned to fly a bit this month. Last month I was mostly grounded except for a short flights to LA.
But VoIP Watch beat me to it and tested the service and I trust Andy's words, I think I will be just using it, instead of testing (He also wrote earlier about in flight VoIP and manners);

Here's the net net. The peace of mind, knowing I can be in touch vs. out of touch makes the $5.95 cost for GoGo on a short hop a pleasure. Add to that the in-seat power keeps my Air nice and charged, ready for a morning of breakfast, some fresh air and a view of the Bay from where I will be most of the day working away before meeting up with friends in SF.

The issue has been widely reported on sites including Mobile Crunch and theiphoneblog. The problem, as was outlined in the email, impacts all applications on a the iPhone, not just the Truphone application. With that said, the bug seems to have affected very few people that Truphone is aware of."

Andy Abramson over at VoIP Watch has written a nice piece on hotels and bandwidth and othe networking advice.
I have stayed in the most of the hotels he has stayed and described in his article. Two of them (Chains) that he is happy with, we consulted on setting up the infrastructure and I am very happy Andy liked them.
If you are a business traveler, I suggest you read how a truly connected business traveler does it and think about it!

According to Andy over at VoIP Watch thay are playing hide and Seek with VoIP. I agree with what he has to say but sooner or later they will come out with their games. In 1994, we rented a portion of a international direct line we had to one of the big companies he mentioned! But they did not know we were compressing both voice and data on this line. When they found out, after a year or so! they had their own lines laid using the same technology!

VON Assets Are In The Hands Of Virgo Publishing.
Andy Abramson of VoIP Watch is reporting that Virgo Publishing has acquired the VON Assets that we all have been wondering about for some time.
According to the press release, which is also on Andy's post, Virgo plans to carry out the VON traditions. But I guess we will have to wait and see.
