Facebook just released an iOS / Android App, "facebook messenger" and for those who are familia with Beluga will find it very easy to use. Others will find it easy to use. Just tap on the Messenger for iOS or Messenger for Android icon and all your facebook verbage and direct messages will be delivered to you in a single stream.

Follow the links below to get the either version of the app from respective stores, I meant app stores, iTunes App Store and Android Market. But I like the real facebook app on both the platforms.



But before you download that app, if you are an iOS user, there is another app, MyPad (FacePad) that was a facebook app for iPad is now released for all the iOS devices. MyPad brings you all the facebook glory and your Twitter timeline together. I prefer seperate apps for twitter and facebook but you might find it useful like the 12 Million iPad users who have downloaded the App.

Twitter just announced Firefox with twitter via a tweet of course. But they made it as if you have to reinstall Firefox to get the feature, Twitter Address Bar Search.

If you already have the Firefox installed, you do not have to reinstall it, just get the add-on from the Mozilla site. But it is a nice add-on.

Looks like Apple likes Twitter, no make it Apple Loves Twitter. Looks like Apple has handed over iOS 5 kingdom twitter, as TechCrunch's MG Siegler says.
Basically Twitter connect is core part of iOS 5 and any developer who wish to utilize the twitter for social or other contacts could easily connects with the hooks already there.

“Overall the big thing for us is the combination of two big platforms, and we’re complementary to each other. Twitter from day one has been a mobile-friendly company — that was a part of Jack’s [Dorsey] original vision. So to pair up with Apple on this is a great opportunity,” has said Ryan Sarver, Twitter's head of platform. 

This is too big for Twitter and what many expected facebook to accomplish has emerged from Twitter camp. Now we have to sign on again, as the single sin-on might not really work.

Microsoft has officially announced about Microsoft Phone "Mango" at the Microsoft’s Windows Phone VIP Reception. President of mobile communications at Microsoft, Andy Lees and senior Windows Phone product manager Derek Snyder has given a quick rundown of features and capabilities of the newest version of the Windows Phone platform, WP7.1 or “Mango.”

Supposedly there are 500 new features, but it looks like the main focus is centered around communication, applications, and the mobile internet. There are enhancements to the current service offerings in People Hub, now it has in addition to Facebook, Hotmail, and Gmail, two new services LinkedIn and Twitter.

One other interesting feature is that Mango will get Groups feature, which allows multiple people to communicate across a multiple platforms, while simultaneously integrating those people’s profiles, pictures, and a group history of all events and communication shared. Mango also employs Windows Live Messenger and Facebook Chat to keep you connected with friends, even those on other platforms.

The call history also get a nudge upwards with voicemail, missed calls, text messages, and any calendar events with regards to that particular contact integrated. Speech-to-text will also offer a completely hands-free experience for texting, which was definitely impressive in the demo according to Mobilecrunch.

While it is only available for some Android and iDevice users, Twitter has released a HTML5 based client for Mobile browsers, another Mobile Twitter. Those who have tested, like Om Malik, swear by it as being wonderful.
According to Om Malik, it is fast, it is similar to the desktop version of the Twitter client and allows on to indulge in daily doze of twittering.

Twitter had this to say about the app;

"The app is fast – you can quickly scroll through your timeline, move between tabs and compose Tweets. It’s rich – it takes advantage of capabilities that high-end device browsers offer, such as touch gestures and a large screen. Twitter Tax Break, A San Francisco Political Fight!

The Twitter Tax break would give companies in the economically depressed Mid-Market and Tenderloin neighborhoods, be exempt from paying the payroll tax for new employees. The exemption would be good for six years and would not apply to workers already on the payroll.
The legislation also exempt affected companies from paying payroll taxes on employee stock options if they go public during this six years and would save a bundle for involved companies.

But the board of supervisors are up in arms. Some supports the measure while others looking to bring it in front of voters in November.

Twitter, a private company, is thinking of moving to Brisbane from it's current location, south of market, is of course looking for the break. If approved, Twitter would move in to a place on Market street by ninth street. Twitter is projecting to hire about 2650 employees by 2013. Twitter currently has 350 employees.

According to Techcrunch, the line "We created subscriptions for publishing apps, not SaaS apps" is attributed to Steve Jobs. Obviously the first thing came to my mind was "whatever".
Remember this is the same guy who said people did not know how to hold the phone when the iPhone 4 Antennagate came about. Now the Antennae problem is mysteriously solved in Verizon iPhone. Give us a break!
Anyway I side with Eric Schonfeld at Techcrunch, the whole Apple subscription deal might have been a trial balloon, which blew up on the take off.
The inconsistency of this policy becomes more visible when we read various industry pundits and others go through the policy and pick it apart to see what it really is. It was the disbelief in the beginning, when we read about Readability Apple issue, even though Apple has every right to do what ever they want with their platform, is it wise?
Like Readability's open letter to Apple, now we have Instapaper founder Marco Arment saying;

"A broad, vague, inconsistently applied, greedy, and unjustifiable rule doesn’t make developers want to embrace the platform."

But Arment is also more reasonable than me in laying out bricks that we hurl at Apple to build a reasonable case;

One issue is that this policy assumes that all apps are made by someone with the ability and authority to collect IAP payments on the service’s behalf, which isn’t the case for third-party clients using a service’s API.
If Twitter charged a subscription fee, or even sold any content whatsoever, no third-party Twitter clients would be permitted on the App Store, effectively preventing that entire market.
But we don’t need to look only at Twitter. There are plenty of paid services, or free services with paid upgrades, that have first- and third-party iOS apps. Some of the many examples:

• Evernote’s app offers its premium accounts with IAP, but third party clients can’t. Are third-party Evernote clients now prohibited?
• Dropbox’s app doesn’t offer Dropbox’s Pro accounts at all, but the app is indirectly affected by the user’s storage space. Is additional storage space enough to qualify as “content, functionality, or services”? If so, does that put all Dropbox-syncing apps under the (impossible for them) IAP-requiring policy?
• There are a lot of first- and third-party apps that access Salesforce, LinkedIn, and 37signals’ services, all of which have paid service tiers. Will all of these be removed from the App Store if they don’t build in IAP?
• All Pinboard.in accounts are paid. Does that mean that nobody can make a Pinboard client except Pinboard itself, because nobody else can accept payments on its behalf?

What’s going to be the rule for third-party apps accessing paid services?

Well if I am a developer, if there is even a slightest content, functionality, or services involved, I will go Android Way. Oh Wait, We already did, our (My company) vertical market SaaS App designed for Healthcare industry, only runs on Android. So far it is something like 1500 tablets, but it is 1500 tablets that brings our company revenue and tied to multiple payments from various sections of the Healthcare industry. Even if we want to share 30% (certainly not) it will be close to impossible to calculate!

Looks like Egyptian Internet is coming back online which is good news. On the other hand we hear about violence spreading in that country.
Egypt cut off all connections from the world earlier gradually. On January 27, 2011 the internet connections in Egypt dropped drastically and people were no able to get the information in or out as on 31st of January, all the connections to Egypt was dropped. But institutions like Google, Twitter came out with alternative methods for people to get the words out.

Egyptian Internet providers returned to the Internet at 09:29:31 UTC (11:29am Cairo time). Websites such as theEgyptian Stock Exchange, Commercial International Bank of Egypt, MCDR, and the US Embassy in Cairo, are once again reachable.

Let us see if we could see any good news coming out now.
